He graduated from Colton High School in 1973 and then enlisted for service with the United States Army. After he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, he pursued his educational career by attending night school at San Bernardino Valley College and later, the University of Redlands. Mel has earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, a Master's Degree in Management, and possesses almost 20 years of K-12 school management experience. Mel has always valued the importance of pursuing a higher education and knows that quality educational programs and an adequate learning environment for our students is the key to preparing them for college. For over two decades, Mel has donated endless hours to the youth of our community by raising funds and awarding many scholarships to college bound students, youth mentoring to stress the importance of an education, coaching and raising funds for youth sports, and organizing and participating in food and clothing drives for the poor. Mel currently serves as President of the Colton Joint Unified School District Board of Education As your Board Member, he will continued to work hard to improve programs and policies to ensure our children have educational programs and school facilities second to none. |
